Munich Startup: What does Ecoplanet do? What problem does it solve?
Maximilian Dekorsy, founder and CEO of Ecoplanet: We offer SaaS solutions for the analysis and optimization of energy management and procurement. With our Ecoplanet Cockpit, customers benefit from two things: legally compliant energy management and intelligent energy supply. Our customers save significant costs and CO2 emissions – saving energy costs is particularly essential for companies in the current market environment.
Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!
Maximilian Dekorsy: Not yet in this form. Companies have historically attempted to measure, optimize, and intelligently purchase energy consumption. However, they did so with the help of traditional offerings (including consultants) and without optimizing both elements holistically. In our software, we integrate consumption and supply, thus ensuring even greater savings than previously possible. Our artificial intelligence also ensures that the optimization potential for companies is even more innovative and long-term than before.
Energy transition as a challenge for SMEs
Munich Startup: What is your founding story?
Maximilian Dekorsy: Henry and I were already good friends before Ecoplanet and often talked about the challenges facing medium-sized companies. At the end of 2021, we began to discuss the energy transition in more detail and recognized the energy transition as the biggest challenge facing these companies next – but they are not prepared to master this new challenge, along with all the other complexities. We founded Ecoplanet in mid-2022 and launched our first product in December 2022. Our cockpit represents the energy expert in the company, which our customers often cannot or do not want to afford.
Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Maximilian Dekorsy: Especially in our field, the constantly changing regulatory landscape is certainly one of the greatest challenges for our clients, but also for us. With our Cockpit, we map out all the challenges in the energy sector for our clients – regulations and new legislation account for a large proportion of their business concerns. We employ certified employees who constantly monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on our client base.
Ecoplanet: Opportunity to help shape the energy transition
Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?
Maximilian Dekorsy: The current situation presents a tremendous opportunity for everyone who wants to help shape the energy transition. We now have the opportunity to contribute to ensuring that companies position themselves for long-term success and that Germany remains a strong business location. With Ecoplanet, we want to help our customers stabilize their economic situation so that they can reach a point as quickly as possible where the energy transition is their focus and part of their everyday lives.
Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?
Maximilian Dekorsy: For us, Munich offers a very good mix of a strong economic structure, excellent educational and research institutions, and a large network of investors and energy experts. Because Munich is also our home, we have the ideal conditions here for the development and growth of Ecoplanet.
Munich Startup: Quick exit or long breath?
Maximilian Dekorsy: Staying power! With the energy transition, we have certainly chosen one of the most comprehensive and therefore long-term topics as our focus. We firmly believe that sustainability and economic success can go hand in hand. This applies not only to our customers, but also to us.
