Ultimately, however, the first panel discussion made it clear which topic would be the focus of the conference: artificial intelligence. Under the heading "The Journey Ahead: Booking.com's Glenn Fogel on Shaping the Future of Travel," Glenn Fogel, CEO and President of Booking Holdings, answered questions from Financial Times editor Murad Ahmed. It became clear that there is no getting around AI. Fogel began by clarifying that AI has long been used in his company, albeit in the form of machine learning. Generative AI and Large Language Models, however, now offer entirely new possibilities. He specifically mentioned interactive solutions such as an AI travel planner and AI customer service. He also made it clear, however, that all of this will take some time: initially, AI will only support humans. Towards the end of the conversation, the two then focused on the regulation of AI. Here, Fogel hinted that he disagrees with the new EU regulations, arguing that overregulation would lead to competitive disadvantages. Ahmed finally wanted to know why Booking was still a European company. Fogel answered a question that was vague, saying he didn't want to rule out anything for the future. (Image: Munich Startup)
