After Brazil and Chile, Mexico is the third major Latin American country in which Flix will operate – marking an important milestone in the company's Latin American expansion. In the other two markets, the Munich have already had great success and have been able to significantly expand their offerings in recent months. André Schwämmlein, CEO and co-founder of Flix, explains:
"Bus travel has a rich tradition in Mexico, and we want to contribute to it. We want to offer customers in Mexico a modern travel experience with our technology platform, our app, our global brand, and our expertise."
Latin America isn't the only market in which Flix is expanding. The company is offering national routes in Norway for the first time. Furthermore, Flix launched a new airport shuttle service in Sweden and expanded its offerings in Finland. Furthermore, Flix has added new destinations to its long-distance bus network in Portugal, where it now serves almost 100 stops. 19 new destinations have also been added in Ukraine, bringing the total to 92. The company is also expanding significantly in Flix's newest market, India: Today, the Flix network there includes over 100 cities. Further expansion of services to Finland, Ukraine, India, and the South American region is planned for later this year.
Flix expands rail connections
In addition to expanding its bus connections, Flix is also continuing to work on its rail network in Germany. With the 2024/25 winter timetable, the company expanded its cooperation with the Deutschlandtarifverbund (DTV). This means that around 200 additional cities can be reached with the combo tickets, which consist of a Flixtrain and a regional train journey. The company is thus doubling its offering compared to spring 2024. According to the company, around ten million people in over 350 cities now have access to the Flixtrain network. Schwämmlein comments:
"Flixtrain will be a crucial component of our growth strategy in the coming years. The cooperation with DTV is an important step towards connecting more and more cities across Germany with our services – even outside of metropolitan regions."
In addition, Bavaria is part of the DTV cooperation for the first time, with cities such as Aschaffenburg, Schweinfurt, and Würzburg now part of the network. Other cities from which travelers can now book the Flixtrain service include Elmshorn, Flensburg, Kiel, Ludwigshafen, Pforzheim, and Speyer.
