Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DLH) is relying on the Legal AI platform from Munich startup June to process passenger claims more efficiently. The goal is complete digitalization of procedures to enable faster and higher quality results for customers.
With the implementation of the AI-powered case management & automation platform, Lufthansa is responding to a central challenge in international aviation: despite high efficiency, flight schedules are subject to numerous external influences such as weather, strikes, or demonstrations. These factors regularly lead to delays and flight cancellations. Since a single flight often affects several hundred passengers, this creates a significant number of legal proceedings.
In 2022 and 2023, Lufthansa sold over 230 billion passenger kilometers according to Statista, making it one of the five largest airlines in the world. This corresponds to a high demand for legally secure and fast processing of customer requests. With June, a data-driven, AI-based approach is now being pursued to accelerate the processing of these claims while creating transparency in the process.
Efficient automation through centralized platform
June’s platform digitalizes all relevant workflows related to passenger claims. Mail and email documents are automatically recognized, deadlines, parties involved, and case data are extracted and evaluated. Additionally, the system automatically creates written submissions and reports, significantly reducing manual work.
“We benefit enormously from our collaboration with June and can use the AI-based platform to handle a large volume of claims in an automated and efficient manner. This not only saves us time and costs, but also provides added value to our customers through fast and streamlined claims processing. We’re starting with Lufthansa Airlines in Germany. However, the project is set up in such a way that a rollout to subsidiaries or for claims cases in other countries can be accomplished without significant additional effort”,
says Sebastian Thies, project manager for the implementation at DLH.
The platform provides a consistent data foundation (single source of truth) that enables a 360-degree view of all relevant information. This allows Lufthansa’s legal department to centrally manage and control the entire process – from claim intake to closure – with AI support.
“New ideas and opportunities for continued constructive cooperation”
June is also satisfied with the collaboration so far:
“We are pleased with the positive effects our AI platform is achieving at DLH. We are able to adapt the application flexibly and make it usable for other forms of legal disputes in a very short time. That’s why we are working intensively with DLH on new ideas and opportunities for continued constructive cooperation for mutual benefit”,
explains Björn Frommer, co-founder and CEO at June.
