Munich-based technology company Quantum Systems has successfully completed a €160 million financing round, securing unicorn status. The Series C round was led by Balderton Capital. Other new investors include Hensoldt, Airbus Defence and Space, Bullhound Capital, and LP&E AG. Existing investors HV Capital, Project A, Peter Thiel, DTCP, Omnes Capital, Notion, and Porsche SE also participated again.
With the financing, the Munich-based company intends to accelerate its global expansion, scale production capacities and further develop its autonomous drone systems, software and AI technologies.
Growth at all levels
Founded in 2015, Quantum Systems specializes in AI-based aerial reconnaissance systems. The company claims to have experienced annual revenue growth of over 100 percent for several years. The company currently employs approximately 550 people at locations in Germany, Australia, Ukraine, and Romania.
The startup's modular drone systems combine eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) technology, edge computing, AI, and autonomous navigation. The products are used in both military and civilian applications, including public safety, open-pit mining, agriculture, and infrastructure projects.
"The need for sovereign, airborne reconnaissance has never been greater. Our systems—a powerful combination of hardware and software—are designed for the reality of modern defense and security requirements: autonomous, interoperable, and proven under extreme conditions. With the support of our new and existing investors, we are poised to become the European market leader in robotic and AI-supported aerial reconnaissance solutions. We provide public and private customers with the high-resolution and accurate data they rely on for their daily decisions."
says Florian Seibel, Co-CEO and co-founder of Quantum Systems.
New markets and strategic acquisitions
In addition to technological development, Quantum Systems pursues a clear expansion strategy. Only in March did the company take over the German drone manufacturer AirrobotThis made Quantum Systems a Tier 1 supplier to the UK Ministry of Defence. The acquisition of Nordic Unmanned UK also marked its entry into the UK market.
With its latest product generation, Vector AI, the Munich-based company addresses current requirements for real-time ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) functions, even in complex operational areas without GPS or communications coverage.
Sven Kruck, Co-CEO of Quantum Systems, commented on the current financing round:
"The successful completion of our Series C financing round is a significant milestone in our company's history. This investment enables us to continue pursuing our vision and significantly strengthen our market position. We will expand our global production capacities to meet the growing demand for our AI-powered ISR systems and expand our global market presence."
And Mike Schöllhorn, CEO of Airbus Defense and Space, added:
"As current conflicts demonstrate, Europe's security will depend on networked, interoperable, and cross-domain defense solutions—as well as the ability to rapidly develop war-winning capabilities. Airbus is pursuing its mission to help shape a leading aerospace defense ecosystem that delivers precisely these capabilities to our partner nations. Partnerships with agile and capable companies like Quantum Systems are critical building blocks for realizing this shared vision—accelerating innovations in autonomous flight and collaboration between manned and unmanned systems."
With the new financial resources and the strategic support of investors, the Munich-based company plans to further expand its position as a European technology leader in the field of robotic reconnaissance.
