Munich Startup: What does Law me do?
Katrin Stopp von Falkenstein, founder of Law me: Law me Law me is an all-in-one app for efficient conflict resolution in civil law. The platform is designed for all parties seeking legal recourse and covers all areas of civil law. We are a legal ecosystem packaged in a single app for legal questions. The app is available to anyone with legal questions in civil law (rental, inheritance, family, or even employment and corporate law), whether tenant or landlord, employer or employee, startup founder or freelancer. Law me creates a win-win situation for everyone involved in the search for and resolution of legal issues – without disadvantaging anyone.
We are a comprehensive conflict resolution solution in an app designed to provide mediators, lawyers, legal insurance companies, and those seeking legal recourse with a strong starting point. We have therefore addressed all the needs of these parties and developed the Law-me ecosystem.
A platform for justice and out-of-court settlement
Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!
Katrin Stopp von Falkenstein: Solutions already exist that address legal issues in B2B, but there is no comprehensive solution for legal proceedings or a legal ecosystem within this framework. A second unique selling point and USP: We promote out-of-court settlements and mediation, thereby initiating a new procedural path that the judiciary has been planning to implement for years in order to avoid unnecessary litigation. Furthermore, as an advocate for out-of-court settlements, I see this as the key to greater fairness in our interactions.
Munich Startup: What is your founding story?
Katrin Stopp von Falkenstein: In 2022, I had the idea to automate all of this. When ChatGPT then came onto the market, the matter was clear; all that was needed was a really good business model behind it. We were therefore also the first to work on AI-powered legal advice in 2023.
Munich Startup: What was your biggest challenge?
Katrin Stopp von Falkenstein: The biggest challenge was bootstrapping the product, meaning without investors or business angels. Generally, I see bootstrapping as easier in the software sector than if I had hardware. However, you also have to consider that banks much prefer financing hardware to software. So, if no money is available, you at least need a team with all the necessary skills, such as app development and AI development. Finding and motivating this team to work without funding took the longest. Since I started alone and didn't launch the company from university, all government funding was also unavailable at the beginning. So, I paid for everything out of my own pocket.
Cooperations and licensing
Munich Startup: How are things going?
Katrin Stopp von Falkenstein: We currently have numerous collaborations, downloads, and initial subscribers, as well as interested parties who want to invest in our product or license it for use abroad.
Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?
Katrin Stopp von Falkenstein: Munich is a fantastic location for startups. The government is committed to providing numerous opportunities. Large corporations are establishing innovation departments to digitize their processes and support startups. Not to mention the many excellent startup funding programs available in Bavaria. I would recommend starting a business here to anyone.
Munich Startup: Risk or security?
Katrin Stopp von Falkenstein: Our service reduces the risk for users of being evicted without good cause, whether under tenancy or employment law. The chance for greater fairness through increased transparency also gives people more security in their everyday lives.
