The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is calling for proposals for business models and pioneering solutions as part of its innovation program (IGPMunich startups are once again invited to submit their ideas. €10 million is available for innovative concepts that contribute to the attractiveness, economic strength, and quality of life in both urban and rural areas. This refers to entrepreneurial, non-technical innovations, such as new business models, services, or organizational forms that generate social and economic momentum.

Gitta Connemann, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, explains:

“Our cities and regions are changing – in some cases rapidly. Many are facing the question: How do we increase quality of life and economic strength? For this, we need fresh concepts and bold ideas. New approaches to spatial use and design, local supply, mobility, and regional services. I am certain: Creative entrepreneurial spirit makes the decisive difference. This is precisely where our new IGP funding program comes in. It gives small and medium-sized enterprises a boost.”

We are seeking ideas that present innovative solutions for urban and rural areas, such as concepts for the repurposing of real estate and land, models for the more efficient use of regional resources, or projects in the areas of smart cities, smart villages, and tourism. Small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, freelancers, and non-profit organizations are eligible to apply. Research institutions that collaborate with businesses are also eligible to apply.

IGP funding call: Application deadline in February 2026

Funding is provided through a multi-stage competitive process. Interested companies are invited to submit an application by February 5, 2026. The ministry will then select the most promising concepts, which will be further developed and refined in subsequent rounds. The funding budget is approximately ten million euros.

The innovation program for business models and pioneering solutions expands the existing funding system specifically to include non-technical innovations. It primarily targets young, digitally savvy startups and companies from modern service sectors that are testing new forms of business and collaboration.

Another funding round is already planned: The next round is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026. This round will focus on collaboratively developed business models and so-called cross-innovations. These are projects that span industries and disciplines and develop new organizational designs, services, or digital applications.
