Applications are now open for the Media Startup Fellowship 2026: Until January 27, 2026, founders can apply if they work innovatively with new technology and create something completely new with digital media. Teams do not need to be officially registered yet. What matters is a working prototype that demonstrates you can develop a product. If you convince the jury, you’ll receive not only €40,000 in funding, but also comprehensive support including coaching, networking, and community.
Fellowship with three development phases
The program runs for nine months and begins with the application deadline, followed by the Trial Run: a three-day in-person workshop where participating teams experience coaching, challenges, and exchange. A jury decides together with the Media Lab Bayern who will be admitted to the fellowship.
In Phase I / Set Up, founders deepen their vision, systematically test their assumptions, and strengthen their financial and pitch skills. This is followed by the first pitch day, which paves the way to Phase II / Build Up. There, teams work on expanding their structures in marketing, sales, networking, and organization.
After another pitch day, Phase III / Raise Up begins, focusing on fundraising, financial growth, and strategic development. A public demo day marks the conclusion of the program.
Real innovation for the media industry is what we’re looking for
The Media Lab Bayern is specifically aimed at startups that want to revolutionize the digital media world. The focus is on digital solutions that journalists or media companies can use. Teams that rethink user needs or innovatively leverage technology will find the right platform here.
The program runs mostly remotely, complemented by individual in-person dates at the Munich Media Lab. The co-working space is open to all fellows. In-person participation is mandatory for the Trial Run.
