Startups sought for Media Startup Fellowship

The Media Lab Bayern is once again seeking founders who are rethinking the digital media landscape. Startups can apply for the nine-month Media Startup Fellowship until January 27, 2026 – including €40,000 in funding, coaching, and community access.

The application period for the Media Startup Fellowship 2026 is now open: Founders who are innovative in their use of new technology and creating something entirely new with digital media can apply until January 27, 2026. Teams don't need to be officially founded yet. What's crucial is a functional prototype that demonstrates their ability to develop a product. Those who impress will receive not only €40,000 in funding but also comprehensive support including coaching, networking, and community involvement.

Fellowship with three development phases

The program spans nine months and begins with the application deadline, followed by the Trial Run: a three-day in-person workshop where participating teams experience coaching, challenges, and networking. A jury, together with Media Lab Bayern, decides who will be accepted into the Fellowship.

In Phase I / Set Up, the founders refine their vision, systematically test their assumptions, and strengthen their financial and pitching skills. This is followed by the first Pitch Day, which paves the way for Phase II / Build Up. There, the teams work on expanding their structures in marketing, sales, networking, and organization.

Following another Pitch Day, Phase III / Raise Up begins, focusing on fundraising, financial growth, and strategic development. A public Demo Day concludes the program.

What's needed for the media industry is genuine innovation.

The Media Lab Bayern is specifically aimed at startups that want to revolutionize the digital media landscape. It focuses on digital solutions that journalists and media companies can use. Teams that are rethinking user needs or using technology innovatively will find the right platform here.

The program is largely conducted remotely, supplemented by occasional in-person sessions at the Munich Media Lab. The co-working space is open to all fellows. In-person attendance is mandatory for the trial run.

Interested startups can apply online until January 27, 2026. All details and insights into previously funded teams can be found on the [website/link missing]. Website of the Media Lab Bayern.
