Kaia Health becomes part of Sword Health

The acquisition strengthens the company's position in the field of digital therapies for musculoskeletal diseases and is intended to expand international access to AI-based healthcare.

Kaia Health has been acquired by Sword Health. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Munich-based startup within an internationally operating provider of AI-powered healthcare. The parties involved did not disclose financial details of the transaction.

Kaia Health develops digital therapies for people with musculoskeletal and pulmonary diseases. Since its founding, the health startup has pursued the goal of making evidence-based care available regardless of location. In Germany, the company established itself early on in the reimbursement pathway for digital health applications. Furthermore, it expanded its activities in the USA, reaching millions of users there through employers and other healthcare partners.

Adam Pellegrini, Managing Director of Kaia Health, describes the strategic importance of the acquisition as follows:

“We share a common vision: to democratize access to high-quality care through technology. As part of Sword, we can significantly expand our impact for the millions of patients who rely on Kaia today.”

Expansion of digital services in the USA and Europe

In the US, Kaia Health has provided millions of insured individuals with access to digital care for musculoskeletal conditions. Following the acquisition, these user groups will continue to receive care and will also benefit from Sword Health's AI-powered care platform. The goal is uninterrupted, continuous care, complemented by Sword Health's technological approaches in the areas of treatment outcomes, user engagement, and cost-effectiveness.

Munich remains a key location for the European market. Kaia Health has a strong base in Germany, particularly through access to the statutory reimbursement model for digital therapies. This model enables more than 70 million people to use these applications. Within Sword Health, this foundation will serve as the starting point for further expansion in Europe. Both companies emphasize their approach of operating within national healthcare systems and offering scalable, evidence-based care models.

The acquisition is based on complementary strengths. Kaia Health contributes its technological platform and market expertise in Europe. Sword Health complements this with its own AI models, international reach, and a growing portfolio in the areas of physical, women's, and mental health. The merger aims to make digital health services accessible to a wider range of users.

Kaia Health received legal counsel from Hogan Lovells International LLP. The companies did not disclose any other parties involved or details regarding the closing time of the transaction.
