At the Startup World at Automatica on June 22nd, several young companies were honored for their product innovations in industrial automation and service robotics. The six finalists came from five different nations. Among them was a Munich-based startup — Toposens — awarded.
Startup World Award at Automatica
The winners of the Startup World Award were a novel, non-rotating multi-axis scanner and an intelligent, self-propelled trolley case. They each took first place in the categories of industrial automation and service robotics, respectively. These and other product innovations can be experienced in the Startup World (Hall B4) at Automatica until June 24.
TeraRanger Tower wins with distance sensors and solutions for automation, robotics and drones
With the TeraRanger Tower, the French startup Terabee has developed a scanner for the first time that uses multiple static sensors instead of conventional rotating or mechanical elements.
Low-wear and silent, the multi-axis scanner has great potential to replace conventional scanners in applications such as simultaneous localization and mapping or collision avoidance. Weighing just 130 grams, the TeraRanger Tower is particularly well-suited for use on lightweight robots, which can then zip around—and stop just before obstacles thanks to the scanner. Interested customers lined up at Automatica to talk to the team.
Second place in the automation category goes to Toposens
Toposens is developing a novel 3D ultrasonic sensor. Barbara Brauner, Head of Business Development at the Munich-based startup, comments:
"We really got a lot out of Startup World. We're meeting exactly our target audience here."
The award-winning Munich startup also recently scooped the IT Innovation Award and regularly participates in various competitions. Brauner explains:
“This allows us to get to know different target groups and our market better, expand our network, and increase our visibility.”
Robot rolling suitcase for relaxed travel
Sounds a bit like Knight Rider’s KITT for the suitcase industry: The robot trolley case called “Olive” can be used for communication — controlled by an app, it drives itsIt automatically follows its owner, but can also be used as a means of transportation like a Segway. Whether Olive also has a turbo boost is unknown. The lightweight carbon rolling suitcase was developed by the Iranian startup IKAP Robotics to make traveling more relaxing.
The goal of Startup World and the awards is, among other things, to bring international startups to Munich and facilitate their market entry into the German market. And since the city is currently enjoying the perfect summer weather and showing off its most beautiful side, perhaps one or two startups will want to settle in Munich right away?
