Singapore Calling: Semester abroad with startup internship

The Technische Universität München (TUM) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) are launching a special exchange program: Students attend an entrepreneurship seminar at the host university for one semester and simultaneously complete an internship at a startup.

In this way, the two universities support students who want to acquire both entrepreneurial and intercultural skills. Two high-ranking Singaporean politicians recently learned about TUM's entrepreneurship activities in Munich and Garching.

The new exchange program is open to students of the TUM School of Management. They have the opportunity to spend six months exploring the corporate culture in a different cultural environment, learning from outstanding economists, and establishing contacts in one of the world's most important business locations.

The exchange is part of the NUS Overseas College Program (NOC), in which the National University of Singapore (NUS) cooperates with Stanford University, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and Tel Aviv University, among others. NUS and TUM have been working closely together for 15 years, both in research and in the study programs of TUM Asia and the TUM campus in Singapore.

Singapore and Munich – metropolises with a vibrant startup scene

Singapore and Munich are considered particularly dynamic and innovative business locations, with NUS and TUM as important promoters of entrepreneurship. Singapore's startup scene has grown rapidly over the past ten years. The Economist magazine recently described the city's startup district as "the world's most tightly packed entrepreneurial ecosystem“.

NUS and TUM have contributed significantly to students increasingly focusing on starting a business. Since 1990, around 800 startups have been founded at TUM, creating more than 14,000 jobs. This model is exemplary for all of Germany, said Chancellor Angela Merkel during a visit to the Entrepreneurship Center last year.
