Munich Startup: What does your startup do? What problem are you solving?
Johanna Fink, co-founder Teilzeit.Talente: With our work, we help close the gap between the demand for and supply of qualified part-time positions. Today, 30 percent of employees already work part-time – and the trend is rising. Yet most job boards only offer positions for student assistants or low-wage jobs on a part-time basis. Management positions in particular have barely been offered on a part-time basis to date.
With our job board at Teilzeit.Talente, we make good part-time positions and part-time-friendly employers visible. We help companies unlock the benefits of a part-time-friendly organization, such as sustainable employer branding advantages, strong employee retention, and high productivity despite diverse work models.
Munich Startup: But that already exists, doesn’t it?
Johanna Fink: (Unfortunately) not. We are the first startup to explicitly address the topic of part-time work and the economic and social benefits of this work model, and to provide solutions for it.
Teilzeit.Talente: Two good ideas brought together
Munich Startup: What’s your founding story?
Johanna Fink: My co-founder Moritz Orendt and I met halfway, so to speak. Actually, we started independently of each other at first. Moritz with the job board – which was called Teilzeitbörse back then – and me with Teilzeit.Talente and a focus on consulting with companies.
We got to know each other through a podcast interview – at some point, Moritz approached me and asked if we wanted to team up. Since 2024, we’ve been working together, and I have to say, founding as a team is just more fun!
Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Johanna Fink: The biggest challenge is certainly the sometimes hesitant attitude of companies toward the part-time work model. Especially in the current economically uncertain situation, I have the impression that many companies have pushed the issue of labor shortages to the back burner for now.
At the same time, statistics clearly show that from 2027 onwards, the situation will become significantly more acute due to the retirement of the baby boomer generation. Organizations that prepare for this change today and, for example, can well integrate flexible work models will then have a massive advantage in the job market.
Part-time work as an important tool against labor shortages
Because part-time work – and even nearly full-time – is an important tool against labor shortages. It serves to integrate structurally underemployed groups, such as women and particularly mothers, into the job market. But part-time work is also highly attractive today for younger employees, fathers, and older workers.
Munich Startup: Where do you want to stand in one year, and where in five years?
Johanna Fink: In one year, we will have further expanded our job board and can offer jobs in additional major cities, thus supporting even more people looking for a qualified part-time job. On the other hand, we hope that even more companies will work with us and embark on the journey to becoming a part-time-friendly employer.
In five years, we will have scaled our business model, as the need will have increased significantly on the company side due to demographic change and the resulting increased labor shortages. We will have hired people – naturally on a part-time basis – and will have become a part-time-friendly employer ourselves. With our job board, we are the top address for good part-time jobs, and with our seal for part-time friendliness, we recognize organizations in the DACH region.
Good part-time jobs currently easier to find elsewhere
Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup hub so far?
Johanna Fink: One of our goals is to network better with the social impact startup scene in Munich – because our work strongly supports social sustainability factors. Of course, there’s good startup infrastructure here – but with our specific topic, we’re noticing that many of our corporate customers come from other German states and, for example, good part-time jobs are easier to find in Berlin.
Munich Startup: Risk or security?
Johanna Fink: Clearly risk – otherwise we wouldn’t be working on this topic… But joking aside, we see ourselves as pioneers, and that always comes with a certain amount of uncertainty.
At the same time, both Moritz and I work part-time at Teilzeit.Talente and have other projects as well. Because that, in our view, is a trend of the future – many people no longer work for just one employer, but are involved in various jobs and employment relationships.
