The Munich startup Pina Earth and Austrian company Tree.ly are joining forces. The goal of the new unit is to become Europe’s leading tech platform for forest climate protection projects. By combining software, project development, and sales, the companies want to offer forest owners and corporate customers a scalable and transparent solution.

According to the companies, the merger creates a joint portfolio of over 80,000 hectares of forest land, more than 500,000 tons of CO2 from certified projects, and a network of over 100 corporate customers. Geographically, the company now covers Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Italy, and Hungary.

Pina Earth brings, among other things, a proprietary forest simulation software that will in future run on the Tree.ly platform. This allows projects to be realized under various standards and methodologies such as Improved Forest Management (IFM), reforestation, or forest conversion – regardless of location or size of the forest stand.

“We founded Pina Earth to preserve Europe’s forests for future generations. I’m very pleased to now scale our impact even faster together with Tree.ly – and to offer companies the regional, high-quality climate protection projects they are looking for”,

says Gesa Biermann, co-founder of Pina Earth.

The merger creates market leadership in the DACH region. Companies benefit from an expanded portfolio of nature-based projects, high certificate volume, and a focus on biodiversity and regionality. For forest owners, project certification is simplified, and they gain access to a broader buyer network.

“Technology is the only way to achieve climate goals at the necessary scale. With this merger, we unite the best technologies and teams in the market to implement forest climate protection projects faster, easier, and more reliably – for forest owners and for buyers”,

explains Jodok Batlogg, co-founder and CEO of Tree.ly.

Operational leadership is now being taken over by the Tree.ly founding duo Jodok Batlogg and Christian Lutz. Gesa Biermann and Florian Fincke are moving into strategic advisory roles. Biermann says:

“After the intensive build-up phase, now is the right time to hand over operational management. The merger opens a new growth phase and I’m looking forward to accompanying it strategically – with a focus on impact, partnerships, and governance.”

The new organization operates under the Pina Earth brand and has offices in Munich, Berlin, and Dornbirn. The focus for the coming months is on integration, expanding sales, further developing the technology platform, and preparing for a Series A funding round.
