Update October 2025: Smart Reporting has since rebranded as Jacobian.
Smart Reporting has developed a voice-controlled AI-powered reporting software for radiology, pathology and other clinical fields. The software generates fully evaluated and machine-readable reports that reduce reporting time while improving report quality. With this, the Munich-based company is contributing to the digitalization of healthcare by automating previously manual processes. In addition, data collected in hospitals is made available for later evaluation, such as for medical research.
The EIB is now supporting Smart Reporting’s further growth through a venture debt loan of €15 million. The financing is supported by the InvestEU program, which grants investment partners an EU budget guarantee to increase their risk capacity and mobilize public and private investment. Venture debt loans complement existing venture capital financing without diluting the founders’ shares. With the fresh capital, Smart Reporting plans to enter new markets and further scale its software and data business.
“Strategic importance for healthcare digitalization”
Ambroise Fayolle, EIB Vice-President with responsibility for financing in Germany, says:
“Smart Reporting is developing effective solutions to accelerate standard procedures and diagnostics in medical practices and hospitals while incorporating the latest medical information and guidelines. The technology is of strategic importance for healthcare digitalization and makes data collected once usable for further diagnostics and medical research. We are pleased to advance this medical innovation together with Smart Reporting.”
Wieland Sommer, founder and Co-CEO of Smart Reporting, explains:
“The future of medicine is data-driven. Only with high-quality, standardized data can clinical workflows be deeply automated, evidence-based decision-making enabled, and high-quality, efficient medical care ensured in the future. Over the past few years, through a growing number of partnerships with internationally leading technology companies, we have built global market access. We are very pleased to have found in the EIB a strong, long-term partner whose support will significantly accelerate our expansion into new markets like the USA and Canada as well as new application areas such as surgical documentation.”
And Peter Vanovertveld, Co-CEO of Smart Reporting, adds:
“We are ideally positioned in the market because Smart Reporting is the leading technology-driven provider that structures clinical data directly at the point of origin. Through the nearly unique interoperability of our software and its seamless integration into clinical workflow, we can consistently generate complete and quality-controlled data. With this fresh capital, we are now taking the next step in the company’s development, focusing even more on data utilization in the clinical environment and in drug development. In this area, as in healthcare as a whole, data and its quality are key to success. With these additional financial resources, we are ready to make a significant contribution to this development.”
