Drone robotics company Quantum Systems announces the successful completion of its Series B funding round of €63.6 million. This brings the total funding amount for the Munich drone manufacturer to over €100 million. The investment is led by HV Capital and DTCP, followed by Project A, Thiel Capital, ScaleUp Fonds Bayern, Omnes Capital, and Airbus Ventures.
Quantum Systems’s drones, originally deployed in agriculture and the construction sector, have also been used by the military since the start of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. The startup recently concluded a framework agreement with the German armed forces (Bundeswehr) for the delivery of Vector reconnaissance drones. In cooperation with defense contractor Airbus Defence and Space, the startup is further developing tactical drones with AI and swarm technologies.
“Given constantly changing global challenges, Quantum Systems recognizes the need for a flexible bottom-up approach. This approach fosters innovation and adaptability, enabling Europe to preserve its democratic values while promoting and leveraging breakthrough technologies that drive progress,”
says Florian Seibel, CEO of the drone manufacturer.
The company’s Vector drone is capable of vertical takeoff and landing and can be used as both a fixed-wing aircraft and a multicopter. Additionally, the manufacturer promises a battery runtime of 120 minutes and a video transmission range of more than 15 kilometers. Since Quantum Systems has already delivered numerous Vector systems with AI edge-computing capabilities to Ukrainian forces, the drones are also considered battle-tested.
“Quantum Systems can maintain technological lead”
“We are excited to support Quantum Systems’s vision for global leadership in AI-powered drone robotics. The team has proven it is able to maintain its technological lead. We look forward to collaborating with the team in expanding its product portfolio,”
comments Christian Saller, general partner at HV Capital, on the investment. General partner of Project A Ventures, Uwe Horstmann, explains:
“Recent geopolitical events have made it clear that we as venture capitalists can no longer afford to ignore the complexity of defense technology, which also includes dual-use concepts with diverse applications. That’s why we’re proud to continue supporting Quantum Systems in becoming an important dual-use provider that strengthens the resilience of European and Western technology.”
