At the end of 2022, Reinhard Meier, co-founder of the Munich healthtech startup Teleclinic, and venture capital expert Markus Feuerecker announced the closing of their venture capital firm YZR Capital’s first fund. The Munich VC’s first fund was set up with 100 million euros. One year after its launch, YZR Capital can now attract another investor through Growth Fund Germany, which is contributing a double-digit million amount.

YZR Capital invests in healthtech startups such as the Munich startup Deepeye Medical. The portfolio of the Munich VC ranges from AI-based medicine and 3D data visualization in the OR to booking platforms and covers diverse areas within the healthcare system. The focus is on companies that want to increase the efficiency and transparency of healthcare systems, make healthy living easier, or enable continuous change for better healthcare.

The name YZR (pronounced “Waizer”) is intended to be a synthesis of the English word “wise” and the “Isar,” thereby referring to the expertise of the founders and their team as well as their roots in the Munich ecosystem. Investors include, in addition to the Growth Fund Germany, Beiersdorf AG, Bertelsmann Investments, the European Investment Fund, and KfW Capital.

“Right signals in challenging times”

The current investment through Growth Fund Germany is commented on by the two YZR Capital founders, Markus Feuerecker and Reinhard Meier, as follows:

“Growth Fund Germany sends the right signals in challenging times and, thanks to its volume of one billion euros, has the power to significantly improve the investment climate. Innovation drivers like startups advance technological development, which brings enormous benefits and high societal added value, especially in the health sector.”

The Growth Fund Germany was initiated by the German federal government and is financed by private and institutional investors. KfW Capital, one of Europe’s largest VC fund investors, acts as both investment intermediary and investment advisor for Growth Fund Germany.
