AMSilk wins Adidas as partner

The BioTech company AMSilk, based in IZB Martinsried has partnered with Adidas. The Franconian global corporation has produced a prototype using the startup's innovative fibers.

AMSilk artificially recreates natural silk. The fiber, called "Biosteel," is said to be lighter than conventional synthetic fibers, biodegradable, and among the strongest natural materials available to date.

An “unparalleled level of sustainability”

At the Biofabricate conference in New York, Adidas presented its Futurecraft Biofabric prototype, which is made entirely from the high-tech material Biosteel. James Carnes, Vice President Strategy Creation at adidas, explains:

"By using Biosteel fibers in our products, we achieve an unparalleled level of sustainability. This moves us away from the idea of closed cycles toward an endless cycle, perhaps even away from circular thinking altogether. This pioneering achievement is about far more than just sustainability; rather, we are opening up a whole new field of bionic innovations."

Jens Klein, CEO of AMSilk, says:

"These athletic shoes, developed in collaboration with adidas, are the world's first product made from a high-performance material consisting of nature-identical silk biopolymers. With this development, we are setting new standards in textile sustainability and functionality."
