Many projects, little capital, and, above all, an idea you're passionate about – a 40-hour week isn't enough to build a startup. It doesn't have to be. Founders want to make their idea a success and are willing to take on a lot to achieve this. However, those who don't allow themselves time off for an extended period of time run the risk of becoming completely burned out. Insomnia, concentration problems, or high blood pressure can be early signs of this. Neurologist Miriam Goos said in an interview with Netzpiloten Magazine on the topic “Does working in startups make you sick?”:
"They have a constant highway of thoughts in their brains and first have to learn to slow down. For example, I take them [the patients – editor's note] for a walk, and then we consciously practice walking very, very slowly. That alone is incredibly difficult for most people."
Since it's hard to work with a highway in your head, even highly motivated founders should allow themselves time off and rest.
