Use solar energy around the clock? That is what the Munich startup VoltStorage They have set themselves the goal of mass-producing the first commercially viable household energy storage system. Sirius Venture Partners and the Smart Energy Innovation Fund are providing initial support. A seven-figure investment is being discussed. The young entrepreneurs made contact with investors through the event. Leading Entrepreneurs from LMU Entrepreneurship Center, which also featured Sirius Venture Partners.
“It had to be possible to store solar energy so that it could be used at night and in bad weather!”
This was the basic idea that first emerged about four years ago among Michael Peither and his former fellow students and current business partners Jakob Bitner and Felix Kiefl. During their master's studies at the Technical University of Munich, the three were working in their basement on a storage solution for solar power. The result of their tinkering was the first prototype of VoltStorage.
Ecologically and economically sustainable
Today, VoltStorage GmbH is close to mass-producing the first commercially viable energy storage system for households. The storage system resembles a large refrigerator. The young Munich-based company is thus, for the first time, making an efficient storage technology available to households that, until now, could only be used in industrial applications.
"Energy 360° stands for solutions that are convenient and both ecologically and economically sustainable. This is exactly what VoltStorage offers,"
says Ruth Happersberger, Head of Corporate Development at Energie 360° and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Smart Energy Innovation Fund AG. And further:
“VoltStorage is particularly worth supporting because the startup offers a complete package that is both simple and attractive for households.”
The founders of VoltStorage plan to use the seven-figure investment to build a strong team in Munich and, of course, to bring the prototype to series production. The first generation of VoltStorage is scheduled to enter series production in January 2018.
