"Goodbye Cathedral City and off to the south" seems to be Klarna's motto. Klarna Group Germany is now officially moving into its new headquarters on Theresienhöhe, right in the heart of Munich's city center. The Swedish company is thus relocating its previous headquarters in Germany from Cologne to the Bavarian capital. Employees of the company's subsidiary SOFORT GmbH, who were previously based in Gauting, are also moving in.
This means that 110 employees are now based at the new location. A total of around 250 employees are responsible for the Klarna Group in Germany. In the future, central functions for the Austrian and Swiss markets will also be managed from Munich. The proximity to these markets was likely a key reason for the move across the Weißwurst equator.
“Further expand market position”
With the official launch in the Bavarian capital, the management has clear ambitions for 2017:
"More than 19 million customers in DACH have already paid with Klarna's payment solutions (including invoice and installment purchase), and SOFORT has even more than 25 million users in this region. With the new joint headquarters, we can now leverage synergies even more effectively and further expand our market position,"
says Managing Director Marc Berg.
The online payment service provider has already taken a major strategic step toward market leadership: On February 6, it acquired its direct German competitor BillPay. In the last financing round, in which the Swedish company raised a whopping $290 million in funding, Klarna was valued at $2.3 billion.
