Munich Airport ranks first in Europe

Munich Airport was recently named Europe's best airport. This is good news for the state capital, as its connection to international air traffic is considered an important location factor.

In two weeks, Munich Airport in Erdinger Moos will celebrate its 25th anniversary: On the night of May 16-17, 1992, the airport moved from Riem to its current location. Although some have since complained about the greater distance from Munich city center, the airport is considered a success story. For the tenth time in the last twelve years, the World Airport Awards   Munich Airport is now Europe's best airport. Worldwide, Munich ranks fourth behind Singapore, Tokyo Haneda, and Incheon in South Korea. The Skytrax aviation institute awards the prize. Terminal 2 in Munich, which opened in 2003, even received the award as the world's best terminal.

Munich Airport with record results

The airport is also doing brilliantly from a financial perspective. Munich Airport GmbH, a company jointly owned by the Free State of Munich, the Federal Government, and the City of Munich, increased its revenue in 2016 by approximately EUR 1.4 billion to almost EUR 1.4 billion. Operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization reached approximately EUR 530 million, the highest level in the company's history. According to preliminary calculations, the annual result also reached a new record at approximately EUR 150 million.
