Easier access to sophisticated online journalism
The Grimme Institute shortlisted the Munich-based company for this year's Online Award. Piqd, along with 27 other online publishing companies, qualified for the final awards ceremony in Cologne.
"With piqd, we offer guidance in the digital news and information jungle. Without algorithms, without fake news, without hate speech, and without the polarization and outrage culture that often prevails online. piqd significantly facilitates access to sophisticated online journalism,"
says Managing Director Marcus von Jordan.
Decision at the end of June in Cologne
To this end, more than 140 experts—the 'piqers'—select journalistic articles from national and international sources such as news sites and blogs. In a short review, the piqers then explain why the selected article is worth reading. The service is currently available in German and English.
"We are very pleased about the nomination. It motivates us to continue to push the project forward and confirms the relevance of our offering,"
Jordan continued. The online TV guide has been nominated for the first time for the Grimme Institute's prestigious Grimme Online Award. This award is presented annually in four categories for outstanding online journalism. The final awards ceremony will take place on June 30, 2017, in Cologne.
