BioM celebrates its 20th birthday

On April 27, BioM, the biotechnology network for Munich and Bavaria, celebrated its 20th anniversary. 350 guests from industry, science, and politics attended the celebration at the Max Planck Institute in Martinsried.

The end of organic farmingM AG

With the words “The king is dead, long live the king”, opened Prof. Dr. Horst Domdey, Managing Director of BioM, his welcoming address. He surprised the audience with the announcement that the dissolution of the BioM AG was decided. At the BioM However, the AG is merely the company's financing arm. Horst Domdey explained that there is hardly any interest in this instrument for start-up financing in the range of €100,000 to €200,000 for newly founded companies.

“Over the years, the Hightech Gründerfonds and Bayern Kapital have taken on this role and, fortunately, provide sufficient start-up capital for young companies in the Free State.”

The activities of the BioM GmbH. Instead of financial support, the BioM GmbH offers a comprehensive program for founders and young companies, competent funding advice, suitable contacts and a variety of events.

“Over the past two decades, we have created optimal conditions and a functioning network that puts our life sciences companies in the best possible starting position,”

said Horst Domdey.

“For our incubation program InQLab Just last week, we were awarded the Cluster Success 2017 award by the nationwide go-cluster program."

Further greetings were given by Ministerial Director Dr. Manfred Wolterwhich he commissioned Minister of State Ilse Aigner delivered, and the second mayor of Munich, Josef Schmid. Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker delivered the evening's keynote lecture (see the video here). He summarized over 20 years of life science research and expressed his joy at being able to participate in these revolutionary times. Following this, a panel discussion addressed issues of location development and business support.

Ambitious plans for the future

Horst Domdey also presented the business figures of the current Bavarian Biotechnology Report (to the press release). The managing director of the biotechnology network also presented his future plans for the Munich Biotech Cluster. He explained his vision of Munich as a European center of excellence for the healthcare of tomorrow. He also presented three current projects of BioM InnoMuNiCH (a funding network for German-Japanese cooperation on personalized medicine), ImmPact Bavaria (a network of Bavarian biotech companies with a focus on immunotherapy) and DigiMed Bavaria (intelligent networking of patient and research data).
