In the new Reuters ranking of the 100 most innovative universities in Europe, Technische Universität München (TUM) has moved up one place to fourth place. For its ranking, the British business news agency Reuters evaluated the universities' contribution to technological and economic progress through research results and inventions.
The ranking “Europe’s Most Innovative Universities” evaluated ten indicators over the period from 2010 to 2015. These included, among other things, how many patents universities applied for and were granted, how frequently these patents were cited in other patent applications, and how frequently the universities' scientific publications were cited in patent applications and in research publications by industry.
The podium is in sight
TUM improved by one place: It swapped places with the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and now ranks a very respectable fourth, tied with Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge. The goal for next year: to make it onto the podium!
