Top universities, high quality of life and no tuition fees: Munich ranks among the top 10 in a ranking of the world's best university cities.
The university analysts QS have in their “Student Cities Ranking" University cities worldwide are evaluated. The criteria include the quality of the universities, the job market for graduates, the cost of studying and living, and the attractiveness of the city for students.
The overall victory goes to Montreal, followed by Paris and London. The Bavarian capital still ranks ninth, placing it among the world's ten best university cities, ahead of Hong Kong (11) and New York City (19). Due to its lower cost of living, the capital city of Berlin ranks sixth in the list. Germany is the only country with two cities in the top ten.
Oktoberfest is not counted
The reasoning behind the results for Munich states:
“Although living costs tend to be slightly higher in Munich than Berlin, the incentive of free tuition combined with the distinctive Bavarian culture combines to make Munich one of the most appealing study destinations in Western Europe.”
Furthermore, of course, reference is also made to the Oktoberfest, which, of course, was not included in the rating.
