Toposens named ICT startup of the year

The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Brigitte Zypries, has on the Congress “Young ICT 2017” four Startups from the information and communications technology (ICT) sector was awarded the "ICT Start-up of the Year" prize. At the top of the winner's podium: the Munich-based startup Toposens.

Zypries:

This year's ICT-Start-ups show that we have excellent founders who make our business location successful today and in the future. They are an important driver of digital transformationBecause we need exactly such entrepreneurs in Germany, we support these creative minds."

Toposens takes 1st place

The prizes went to:

  1. Place: The company Toposens from Munich has developed a 3D sensor system based on ultrasound that enables precise detection and positioning of people and objects. The product is used, among other things, in Automotive industry, for example in object recognition during autonomous driving or parking assistance.

2nd place: The Freiburg Startup Telocate provides software on mobile devices for precise navigation in confusing, enclosed spaces. Users can use it, for example, at airports, in hospitals or in shopping centern find your way around better.

3rd place: The FOVEA founding team from Uslar is developing an app for photo-optical measurement of wood piles in the forest. Foresters can use the data to simplify the marketing of the wood.

3rd place: The young entrepreneurs from OKINLAB in Saarbrücken offer the users of their On-line-Software offers the possibility to design individual pieces of furniture independently and commission them from local carpenters.

Cash prizes of 100,000 euros

The “ICT Start-up of the Year” award is given to young companies that emerge from the start-up initiatives of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy such as the “Start-up competition – Digital innovations", "EXIST – Start-ups from science“ or the High-Tech Founders Fund or have successfully completed one of the Businessplan competitions, which are partners of the congress. In addition, the founders must have generated a minimum turnover of 100,000 euros in the last 12 months.

The award-winning founders will receive cash prizes totaling €100,000 to further develop their companies. The first-place team will receive a capital grant of €50,000. Second place will receive €30,000, and third place, which was awarded twice this year, will each receive €10,000.
