NanoTemper honored as “Innovator of the Year”

NanoTemper at the top: For the 24th time, the innovation leaders of German SMEs were awarded the TOP 100 seal. NanoTemper Technologies GmbH took first place in its size category (companies with 51 to 200 employees). The mentor of the TOP 100 competition, science journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar, honored the Munich-based company at the awards ceremony at the 4th German SME Summit in Essen.

Clearly structured innovation processes, a fertile innovation climate, and above-average innovation success characterize the TOP 100 companies. Close collaboration with external partners and customers is also part of their daily business. In this already highly demanding environment, NanoTemper emerged at the top with its unique qualities.

Technological unique selling point

NanoTemper, with its 125 employees, develops and produces biophysical laboratory measuring instruments for basic research and drug development. The Munich-based company boasts a unique technological proposition protected by international patents. The primary benefit of this technology lies in the significant time savings it provides when determining biomolecular properties in research and development. The average test duration is reduced from 144 hours to just 1.5 hours. Furthermore, 40 times less material is required for the tests. Pharmaceutical companies can save approximately three months of development time in the early stages.

Very good internal innovation climate

The TOP 100 jury’s statement states:

"The company, founded only in 2008, has impressively succeeded in quickly bringing its innovation to market success: It sold its first product in 2010. Since then, the annual growth rate has averaged 60 percent. NanoTemper Technologies regularly appears in lists of Germany's fastest-growing companies. In addition to its remarkable innovative success, the TOP 100 jury was impressed by the company's excellent internal innovation climate. The majority of employees have an academic background and appear to be driven by a 'natural' spirit of research and discovery."

“Excited every year”

The innovation researcher Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke from the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and his team, as scientific directors of TOP 100, reviewed 414 applications on behalf of compamedia.

“I have been the scientific director of TOP 100 for 14 years and every year I am amazed by the innovative achievements that become visible here,”

Franke, who is also a visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is pleased. He sees the companies well-equipped for the future:

“The TOP 100 is a prime example of how companies are using innovations to achieve competitive advantages—not only today, but also with a view to their future market position.”
