The campaigns of the Crowdfunding Contest Food. Innovative food startups whose projects impress the crowd will receive additional funding in addition to the initial support. Two Munich-based startups are among those receiving funding.
A total of 14 food startups were selected as contest participants. Now, until November 10, the challenge is to determine which startup attracts the most supporters. The goal is not to raise the highest possible amount, but rather to get the crowd on board. Paulikocht #foodporntogo and the The Fresh Manufactory – Fighting Food Waste Two Munich startups are also there.
We spoke with Dr. Jenny Müller and Anna Gruber, the founders of Fresh manufacture, spoken.
Jenny, what do you hope to achieve by participating in the crowdfunding contest?
- We hope to find supporters for our fight against food waste.
- We want to give our fans the opportunity to get a product from us now.
- An important goal, of course, is to use this money to finance our protective atmosphere machine so that we can finally get started.
What was the biggest challenge in preparing the campaign?
Jenny: Honestly, the video. Neither Anna nor I have ever done anything like this before, so it's a lot of work on a tight budget. A friend lent us the camera, my mom shot most of the footage of us in her garden, and another friend edited it (thanks Chris and Dino!).
I had thought about the script before – it was revised a few times during filming and editing. But overall, it was really fun, and we're very happy with the outcome. Check it out for yourself:
And what was the most helpful tip you received while preparing the campaign?
Anna: Creating email lists beforehand with people who support you is especially helpful in the beginning to gain some momentum.

Delicious food for the supporters, funding for the startups
While every supporter receives some form of delicious food for their contribution, the startup winners of the contest receive funding grants totaling 9,000 euros — and a free exhibition stand at the Food & Life trade fair in Munich.
But who actually wins? The winner of the contest is the project that has garnered the most backers for its project by November 10, 2017. The top three places in the ranking based on backers will be rewarded. Additionally, the jury will select one project to receive a special prize based on its innovative achievements.
