Fintech job market booming: Monthly increase of 7 percent

In the months of January to October 2017 alone, fintech companies published 60 percent more job advertisements than in the entire year of 2016. A large proportion of these advertisements were posted by a single Munich-based company.

Overall, a study by the Metajob search engine Joblift  So far this year, there have been 4,927 job openings in the fintech sector. Last year, this total was 3,088. During the same period, the number of job postings in the conventional financial sector fell by one percent per month.

The demand for skilled workers is growing most rapidly among providers of alternative payment methods: 13 more job advertisements are being published here each month. One in three job advertisements in the fintech industry is in this area. One reason: Requests related to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies quadrupled last year. Companies are second most frequently seeking new employees in the finance and banking sectors, with 23. Investments, which include mobile management of stock portfolios, follow with 14, and InsurTech for modern insurance models with 9.

Berlin leads, Munich and Frankfurt in ambush

Berlin clearly leads the ranking of German cities with the most fintech job advertisements, with 38% of all advertisements. Munich and Frankfurt am Main follow with 10% each. Both cities are catching up rapidly, however. While the number of advertised positions in the capital grew by 16% in 2017 compared to 2016, Munich and Frankfurt had twice as many vacancies. A prominent case is Wirecard: The Munich-based company alone accounted for 13 % of all positions advertised in Germany.
