Million-dollar investment for in-flight VR

In-flight VR develops virtual reality applications for the aviation industry. New and existing investors are injecting one million euros of fresh capital into the company.

As the Munich-based startup, founded in 2014, announced, it was able to convince investors CBC Investment, Motu Ventures, Go Beyond, and Heiko Rauch to invest in the company in July of this year. Existing investors Prof. Dr. Jürgen Ringbeck and Prof. Randolf Rodenstock also participated in the €1 million financing round. The fresh capital, says co-founder Moritz Engler, will bring the company one step closer to the market launch of its VR entertainment system.

Initial tests of the VR system on board aircraft were successful, according to co-founder Nikolas Jaeger. Airlines have already shown interest, and test passengers have also responded positively.

Inflight VR adapts virtual reality for flying

Unlike conventional VR applications, a virtual reality offering on board an aircraft must meet some special requirements, Jaeger Munich Startup explained in a interview in spring:

"As an example, consider that a passenger in the VR world runs the risk of accidentally restricting their seatmate, for example, by harassing them with arm movements. Furthermore, it is essential for airlines to be able to maintain contact with passengers at all times."

In addition, the nausea known as “motion sickness,” which can occur when using VR glasses, is also a problem that Inflight VR is working on.
