Coworking – what it brings and why Mindspace is expanding in Munich

The globally operating coworking provider Mindspace continues its Munich expansion and opens its second location at Salvatorplatz on February 1, 2018. A third location at Stachus—with over 7,000 square meters—is planned for fall 2018.

At Salvatorplatz, Mindspace offers space for more than 250 members on four floors and 2,200 m² of space. Together with the space at Viktualienmarkt, which has already opened its doors in summer 2017, Mindspace is currently the largest coworking provider in the Bavarian capital.

Dan Zakai, CEO and co-founder of Mindspace, explains the reasons for the expansion in the Bavarian capital:

"Munich's startup scene is growing rapidly. Large companies, thousands of startups, and top universities are working hand in hand with local politicians to promote this growth. We are proud to become part of this network and to further advance Munich's startup scene through our coworking space, our events, and our global community."

Other global providers such as WeWork are currently following suit.

But what makes working in coworking spaces special? What added value does it offer? We asked a few tenants of Mindspace at Viktualienmarkt.

ABC Venture Gates with its parent company ABC Accelerator Group, have their original office at the Munich Trade Fair Center, but are also members of Mindspace at Viktualienmarkt. For the Accelerator, coworking means flexibility in leasing, as well as the opportunity to easily network. Not only in Munich, but also internationally through the global Mindspace community. Aljosa Ficko, Head of German Venture Relations & Managing Director at ABC Accelerator Group, Mindspace stands for "instant networking." His tip for coworking newbies:

“Make good use of the opportunities presented to you through coworking and most important – have fun.”

Finally, coworking allows you to meet new people from a wide range of industries every day.

For Digital Result, a spin-off of an established SME consultancy, the flexibility and access to the international Mindspace locations are also a plus. Florian Härth, systems analyst & software developer at Digital Result GmbH, says:

"The Mindspace adapts to our needs. If a new employee joins, they're guaranteed a comfortable spot with internet access, a desk, and access card—without us having to do anything. We're also located in a very creatively designed office building in one of the most exclusive locations in Munich."

“Learning from each other” is what makes this concept

Also for Rico Fernando, Head of Human Resources & Organizational Development at the MedTech startup coliquio, networking is important for personal and business development. He says:

"It's the sum of daily encounters that brings us, and especially me, great joy and helps me significantly broaden my horizons – with conversations and very stimulating discussions, including about failures and success stories from other companies. 'Learning from one another' is what makes this concept so special."

At the same time, the startup, which is headquartered in Konstanz, faced a challenge in quickly finding a suitable office in Munich. Coworking was the perfect solution.
