More performance in app development — 7 questions for… ObjectBox

ObjectBox recently returned to Munich from Techstars' London accelerator program. The startup is now continuing to work on its database for app developers. We asked the founders our 7 questions.

1. Who are you and what do you do?

ObjectBox was founded by Vivien Dollinger (39) and Markus Junginger (40). We met during our multimedia studies—at that time, Markus still had colorful dreadlocks 😉—and before ObjectBox, we already had an app agency together in Munich.

ObjectBox is a mobile on-device database that's 10 times faster than the leading provider and requires only 1/10 of the code to implement. On top of that, we develop a data synchronization solution out-of-the-box. This means: App developers can build faster apps with ObjectBox, faster, and have the data they need available whenever they need it. For companies, this means they can launch high-performance apps much sooner.

We just attended Techstars London and highly recommend it. We learned so much, and Techstars gives you a great network—for life, not just for the program. Through this network, you can connect with almost anyone and benefit from their experience and knowledge. This saves you a lot of time and is the real "trick" behind the acceleration. Understanding problems with non-techies

2. But that's been around for a long time!

Sure, mobile databases have been around for over 17 years. However, there have been very few innovations in this area in the last 17 years. A lot has happened in the server space in the same time, and with ObjectBox, we've now transferred these innovations to the mobile space.

3. What has been your biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge is to describe what we want to do and achieve with ObjectBox in simple terms, and above all without tech jargon, so that everyone, or at least almost everyone, can understand it…

4. Let’s get down to business: How is business going?

We provide our database free of charge… 🙂

5. What does Munich mean to you?

We've been Munich residents for over ten years. Since Munich has a strong tech scene, especially in C++ and C, it's a very suitable location to build our team. Speaking of which: We're also currently looking for massive reinforcements 🙂

6. How will your startup become the next unicorn? Or will we see you soon at Epic Fail Night?

Haha, we'll let you know anyway.

7. Fish on a stick or fish n' chips?

Oh, difficult: I prefer the vegetarian alternative… 😉 And then dessert 😀
