Scooter-sharing startup Scoo.me ceases operations

Scoo.me, offering spontaneously rentable scooters, aimed to position itself between rental bikes and car-sharing services. Now the startup has ceased operations.

Scoo.me is history. On the Website of the Munich scooter rental company there is an explanation:

“After more than three years, scoo.me, the first scooter-sharing service in Munich and Cologne, is unfortunately discontinuing its service.”

According to its own information, Scoo.me operated 250 scooters in Munich and Cologne. 13,000 customers reportedly used the rental scooters. The key obstacle was apparently a lack of capital, according to the website:

"To ensure the continued operation of scoo.me, we would need to further expand our fleet. However, the necessary investments have not materialized. For this reason, we must now discontinue our service."

Scoo.me says goodbye quietly

The scooters have already been confiscated, and the app has been deactivated. Customer accounts were automatically deactivated, and customer data has already been deleted, according to the startup. The Munich-based company wrote in a farewell note:

"It has been a lot of fun and joy for us to offer you what your feedback has shown to be a great mobility service, and we are very sorry that we cannot continue doing so."

Investments and partnerships

In September 2015, Scoo.me was a guest on the VOX show "Die Höhle der Löwen." In front of the cameras, they struck a deal with investor Lencke Steiner: 30% company shares for €100,000. However, the investment ultimately fell through. Instead, the founders brought business angel Hubert Barth on board. BayBG joined the scooter sharer with a silent partnership. At least for a The startup also worked with the Munich S-Bahn in a pilot project together.
