Working together for more innovation and entrepreneurship in the media industry: Siegfried Schneider, President of the Bavarian State Office for New Media (BLM), has agreed on a cooperation between Media Lab Bayern, Justin Hendrix, Director of the New York City Media Lab, and Jeff Jarvis, Director of the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the City University of New York (CUNY), during a trip to the USA.
Startup exchange is the focus
A startup exchange will be the focus of the agreement. For alumni from the Media Lab Bayern This will create opportunities to leverage the contacts and expertise of the NYC Media Lab and CUNY and pitch to American media houses and US investors. Furthermore, alumni and fellows of Media Lab Bayern can participate in courses and offerings at CUNY, such as the Social Journalism Program. Conversely, this will also provide an opportunity for US startups to establish contacts in Germany and Europe through Media Lab Bayern and to present themselves on the startup platform of the Munich Media Days, Rockets & Unicorns.
US market increasingly interesting for Munich media startups
BLM President Siegfried Schneider:
"Many of our Media Lab Bayern alumni are now so successful that the American market is becoming relevant for them. We are therefore delighted to be working with the New York City Media Lab and CUNY in the future. This gives our founders the unique opportunity to gain insights directly from two major centers for media startups and innovation in New York and to benefit from their knowledge and network."
Bavaria's Minister of State for Digital, Media and Europe George Eisenreich welcomes the cooperation:
"The Media Lab supports startups in the media and digital industries, offering founders great opportunities. The collaboration with strong partners in New York City opens up new possibilities and demonstrates the success of the work of the Media Lab and the Bavarian State Office for New Media."
