FC Bayern Munich is consolidating its digital activities into a new subsidiary. The record champions hope to increase revenue and reach.
The chairmanship of the management of the newly founded FCB Digital & Media Lab GmbH will be Stefan Mennerich Mennerich is currently Director of Media, Digital and Communications at FC Bayern. He says:
"With the FCB Digital & Media Lab, we want to further expand our enormous media reach. This will also enable us to support our internationalization and generate additional revenue in the areas of media, merchandising, and sponsorship. We will also offer our infrastructure and expertise as a service to third parties on the market."
The subsidiary will consolidate the TV, online, print, and social media editorial departments. The new company will also handle production, digital marketing, IT and technology, as well as the operation of the "FC Bayern.tv Live" channel. The FCB Media Lab is scheduled to begin operations as early as the upcoming 2018/2019 season. A new building is currently being built specifically for management, editorial, and production at FC Bayern's Säbener Straße training ground. The IT and technology teams are located at the FC Bayern Campus in Fröttmaning. Under the name "FC Bayern Digital 4.0," FC Bayern has operated its own data center and IT infrastructure since fall 2016.
FC Bayern doesn't want to lose touch
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chairman of the Board of FC Bayern Munich AG, says about the background of the new company:
"Mediatization and digitalization are fundamental building blocks for FC Bayern's future. With the establishment of our digital and media subsidiary, we want to once again pool our expertise and strengths to further expand FC Bayern's pioneering role in this area."
The FCB Digital & Media Lab is intended to help the club remain competitive in international competition given the enormous TV money.
