For the first time, the winners of the German Innovation Award were honored on June 6, 2018, at a gala ceremony at the Technikmuseum in Berlin. More than 250 invited guests from business, politics, and the media attended the awards ceremony. Among the winners were several Munich-based companies, including Franka Emika and Keyou.
The German Innovation Award recognizes products and solutions across all industries that distinguish themselves from existing solutions primarily through user-centricity and added value. The evaluation was based on criteria such as level of innovation, user benefit, and cost-effectiveness. The innovation strategy should also consider aspects such as social, ecological, and economic sustainability, as well as energy and resource use.
“Excited about the quality”
The award was presented by the German Design Council. Established by the German Bundestag and sponsored by German industry, the German Design Council, an independent and internationally active institution, is committed to promoting the competitiveness of companies. The German Design Council's membership currently includes over 300 domestic and foreign companies employing more than three million people.
650 submissions applied for the award, including industry giants as well as hidden champions and startups.
