The InsurTech Hub Munich (ITHM) has announced the start of a comprehensive strategic collaboration with Roche Pharma AG.
Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, ITHM is an entrepreneurial platform consisting of two accelerator programs that supports startups and connects them with key players from various industries.
The aim of the strategic cooperation between the ITHM and Roche is to promote digital solutions in the health insurance industry in order to improve the daily care of patients.
Financial commitment helps startups scale
Johannes Wagner, Board member of ITHM:
"Electronic health records and so-called 'mobile health' through the use of apps are just a few of the many topics that are becoming increasingly relevant for patients, but where we urgently need to catch up in this country. With Roche, we welcome the perfect partner at the InsurTech Hub in Munich, who, like us, see an urgent need for action in the digital health sector in this country. We are pleased about the financial commitment, which enables us to jointly support the creative minds working at the interface between healthcare and the insurance industry in scaling their startups and, in addition, to give Roche access to new ecosystems and technologies."
The still young field of digital health applications is rapidly gaining importance: While venture capitalists invested 1.5 billion US dollars in so-called digital health startups in 2010, the investment amount grew to 6.4 billion US dollars in 2016.
