Future health startups sought for Medical Valley Award

The 'Medical Valley Award' is entering its second round. The pre-startup competition of the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Media, Energy and Technology is aimed at research groups from the healthcare industry in Bavaria who want to start a business with their innovative concept.

In 2016, the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology Medical Valley Award The winners included two Munich-based startups, Deoxy Technologies and IrubisFounder Anja Müller of Irubis says:

How founders benefit from the Medical Valley Award

The aim is to transform excellent medical technology research results into innovative products within the next two years and to use the technologies for the market.

The Medical Valley Award is intended to promote technologies, processes, and knowledge-based services in the field of medical technology that are no longer classified as basic research. Research groups receive a grant: Universities and university hospitals are allocated a funding rate of €1,001,452 million, while non-university research institutions receive a maximum funding rate of €901,452 million. Specifically, the following are eligible to apply:

  • Universities
  • University hospitals
  • Universities of applied sciences
  • Non-university research institutions, such as the Fraunhofer Society or the Max Planck Society

In addition to a financial injection of up to 250,000 euros, all teams will be actively supported by Medical Valley and experts from the network.

We are specifically looking for ideas from these seven areas:

  • Innovative imaging diagnostics
  • Innovative therapy systems
  • Novel concepts for and with integrated sensors
  • Technologies to support health promotion and prevention
  • Technologies to Optimization of rehabilitation
  • New therapy formats for diseases
  • Innovative platform technologies on the handling of medical devices, including medical informatics/big data

Important: A prototype should not yet be available and the project must involve significant but calculable technical and scientific risks.

An application with a five-page Project outline is still possible until 31 December 2018.
