Develey takes over startup sauce BBQUE

For the barbecue sauce BBQUE, Macandoo collected raised more than 600,000 euros from the crowd. However, the Munich-based startup had to file for insolvency at the end of July. Sauce giant Develey has now acquired the Bavarian barbecue sauce.

Mustard manufacturer Develey from Unterhaching near Munich is buying its BBQUE sauce brand from the insolvent startup Macandoo. The purchase price is undisclosed. The insolvency administrator Karen Buve says:

"Our efforts over the past few weeks have ultimately been successful. With Develey Senf- und Feinkost GmbH, we have found a strong partner for the future of the brand and, at the same time, a good solution for the creditors."

The future of employees is uncertain

In addition to the brand itself, Develey is also taking over the design, recipes, inventory, online shops, and the domain www.bbque.de. Develey states:

"Our team, and especially our strong national sales force, are looking forward to working with our retail partners to professionally advance the potential of this still young and particularly high-quality BBQUE brand."

The Macandoo founder and managing director Oliver Wildner says:

"The last few weeks have been really tough, and that's why I'm all the more pleased that we've now gained a strong partner in production and sales with Develey, thus saving the brand."

A solution for the entire company, especially the employees, has not yet been found. According to the insolvency administrator, Develey is examining whether individual Macandoo employees can be offered positions.
