Toposens successful at EIT Digital Challenge 2018

Toposens was recognized as one of the best European deep-tech startups in the EIT Digital Challenge 2018 and can now look forward to international growth support from the EIT Digital Accelerator worth €50,000, as well as a €50,000 cash prize. The Munich-based startup is working on 3D sensor systems based on ultrasound and radar technology, making it one of the first companies worldwide to develop 3D sensor technology without the use of lenses.

The EIT Digital Challenge is EIT Digital's annual digital competition, with which the European innovation network seeks to identify the best deep tech innovations and promote their international growth. Deep tech refers to highly complex technologies based on scientific research or technical innovations that fuel digital transformation.

Startups in the growth phase — so-called scaleups — could apply in five categories: Digital Industry, Digital Cities, Digital Wellbeing, Digital Infrastructure and Digital Finance.

Cash prize & international growth promotion

Toposens took first place in the Digital Cities category. Founded in 2015, the scaleup develops 3D sensor systems based on ultrasound and radar technology. The systems can be used in areas such as indoor navigation, the automotive industry, robotics, and home entertainment. As the winner, the Munich-based scaleup can now look forward to a cash prize of €50,000 as well as international growth funding from the EIT Digital Accelerator, also worth €50,000.

The EIT Digital Accelerator team consists of business developers and fundraising experts operating from 15 locations and a hub in Silicon Valley. Since 2012, they have supported over 280 scaleups in entering new markets and raising over €100 million in venture capital. The total investment volume of all EIT Digital Accelerator alumni is almost €400 million. Since the first competition in 2014, more than 1,800 companies from all 28 EU countries have applied for the EIT Digital Challenge.
