The coworking market in Munich is diverse. In addition to well-known names like WeWork and Mindspace, which aim to appeal not only to freelancers but also to local corporations, there are also coworking spaces that specialize in a specific topic or target group. Here's a brief overview.
Plant1
Werk1 describes itself as "Munich's most startup-friendly place." Spanning approximately 4,000 square meters, Werk1 primarily offers team office space for startups. Freelancers and creatives who need a workspace—but not a permanent one—will also find the Werksviertel to be the right place: either in the "Silent Space" directly under the roof or in the "Communication Space" next to the café, where small groups can collaborate. As a coworker at Werk1, you also gain access to events, networking opportunities, and thus to the Werk1 community, which is certainly one of the most exciting in Munich from a startup perspective.
WeWork
WeWork is one of the big players in the Munich coworking market. The American coworking giant currently operates in over 100 cities with around 600 office locations, two of which are in the Bavarian capital. WeWork aims to impress not only with modern office space in central locations, but also with its international community of over 200,000 members.
Mindspace
Anyone who's always dreamed of working in close proximity to the Viktualienmarkt can now make this dream a reality. Mindspace, a coworking provider, offers space for more than 250 members across two floors and 1,600 square meters. The Israeli coworking provider also has additional locations at Stachus and Salvatorplatz.
Design Offices
Founded in Nuremberg in 2008, Design Offices now operates in eleven German cities, including five locations in Munich. A sixth branch is scheduled to open in the Werksviertel district in spring 2019. In addition to traditional office and coworking spaces, Design Offices also offers event spaces for rent at some locations.
Impact Hub
Sendling is a mecca for many Munich social entrepreneurs—it may sound strange, but it's true! The Munich Impact Hub primarily attracts community-oriented entrepreneurs who are looking not only for a workplace, but also for a network full of like-minded people. From sexy salad sessions to a falafel pitch at lunchtime—the packed event calendar demonstrates that not only do people work side by side here, but that the members of the Impact Hub also benefit from one another.
Mates
Munich's creative scene also has a coworking hub. Or actually, two, as Mates now has two locations in the city: in Schwabing and at Isartor. Flexible work packages are available, from a spontaneous drop-in to a resident workspace. The community spirit is also being promoted, helping Mates members find new employees and current job openings in the talent pool.
Media Lab
What the Impact Hub is for social entrepreneurship, the Media Lab is for anyone pursuing media-related projects. Located in the east of Munich, the Media Lab offers an open space for students and graduates, as well as those entering and leaving the workforce. The only requirement is that you are working on a specific project related to digital media and have been accepted as a member of the Media Lab. However, you can register for the open space at any time, even if you don't have a concrete idea.
