The Munich-based Gustoso Group is acquiring a majority stake in Ruff's Burger. The burger chain currently operates eight locations in Germany. Details on the terms of the investment have not been disclosed.
Ruff's Burger was founded in Munich in 2008 by Stefan Huspenina and Alexander Kleinhans. Together with Harry Mohanna, who joined the company as commercial director in 2015, they will continue to manage the burger company's operations. The three-person team can be quoted as saying:
"We are pleased to have a competent and experienced partner like Gustoso at our side, supporting us in our goal of establishing Ruff's Burger throughout Germany."
The Gustoso restaurant group will provide support, particularly in the areas of IT, HR, purchasing, and expansion. Gustoso Managing Director Theodor Ackbarow says about the further plans:
"Together with the management team and our franchise and joint venture partners, we will drive the national expansion of Ruff's Burger. The future focus will be on central city locations, shopping malls, and also on transport-based dining."
Small branches with millions in sales
Ruff's Burger started with a food truck in Munich. The first permanent location opened in 2012. At its current eight locations, the company offers ten different burger variations, a rotating weekly burger, and six types of fries. Select stores also offer BBQ ribs, chicken wings, and various salads. According to the company, a typical branch covers an area of 50 to 120 square meters and generates annual sales of around €1 million.
