Competition “Organ replacement from the laboratory” starts

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has announced the pilot innovation competition "Organ Replacement from the Laboratory" to address the shortage of donor organs. Interested parties can apply Apply by the end of June.

The most urgent need for donor organs in Germany is for kidneys, livers, hearts, lungs, and pancreases. Research institutions and commercial companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with at least one branch in Germany are eligible to submit proposals.

Up to 3 million euros in funding

The application process is structured in two stages. In the first stage, outline proposals are submitted by June 28, 2019. Teams with positively reviewed applications will be invited to participate in the next stage of the competition, which includes a six-month data generation phase. The winning teams from this phase will be invited to submit a formal funding application. The funding available in Stage 2 is set at up to €3 million.
