Innovative business ideas honored with the Strascheg Award

A total of 30,000 euros in prize money, 3 categories and 9 winners — at yesterday's E'ship Day at Munich University of Applied Sciences, the Strascheg Award 2019. On the winning side: the most innovative business ideas.

Every year, the Munich University of Applied Sciences’ Ideas Competition honors innovative business ideas in the following three categories:

  • Best business idea from a course,
  • best business idea during your studies and
  • best business idea from science and practice.

Entrepreneurs were invited to submit ideas, projects, and scientific papers driven by entrepreneurial spirit. All submitted applications were reviewed by a high-caliber jury and ranked according to their degree of innovation, market potential, and implementation prospects.

Prize money & consulting services

At yesterday's event, the top three winners in each category were honored. The first- to third-place ideas received €5,000, €3,000, and €2,000, respectively. The Strascheg Award is endowed with a total of €30,000. In addition to the cash prize, the winning projects can also receive six months of free support. and consulting services of SCE Take advantage of start-up funding to ensure the sustainable realization of their projects.

The winning projects:

Category 1 – Best business idea from a course

1st place — sAlve: Software tool for automatically creating meeting minutes; recognition and documentation of relevant content using speech-to-text and natural language processing technology

2nd place — Kant: A beverage container designed to simplify waste separation. A perforation mechanism allows Kant to be separated into the individual materials: cardboard, plastic, and aluminum. This allows for pure recycling of these three materials.

3rd place — Keyword: Keyword has set itself the task of being an innovative news search engine that objectively compares online articles and social media content and offers users a full spectrum of opinions quickly and intuitively.

Category 2 – Best business idea during student time

1st place — Energy wash: In Germany, there are approximately 39 million washing machines, which consume as much electricity as a medium-sized coal-fired power plant generates. As a contribution to climate protection, Energiewäsche aims to develop a washing machine that consumes at least 70 percent less electricity than current appliances.

2nd place Orthometrics: Orthometrics aims to bring the sometimes very analogue and extensive manufacturing process of orthopedic insoles into the digital age with a software solution for smartphones.

3rd place — Hookup: Hookup offers bicycle owners the opportunity to do their beverage shopping easily and in a climate-neutral way by bike

Category 3 – Best business idea from science and practice

1st place — Stella Medical: Stella Medical is developing a surgical navigation system for use in spinal stabilization procedures. The innovative integration of instrument and navigation system delivers a compact, user-friendly solution that intelligently supports the surgeon during critical steps of the operation.

2nd place — Mobio: The mobile reactor system aims to set a new standard in the production, transport, and testing of artificial tissue. Through integrated monitoring and oxygen concentration control, the system guarantees reproducible and real-time production of tissue replacements. This can be used for the treatment of conditions such as osteoarthritis or osteoporosis.

3rd place — Deployables Cubed: The trend is toward ever smaller satellites, so-called Cubesats (form factor 1U = 10x10x10cm3). To expand the potential applications of these satellites, deployable structures such as antennas, sails, or masts are essential. Deployables Cubed has therefore set itself the task of developing such deployable structures and the nano-actuators that enable them in Europe and offering them to the rapidly growing global New Space market.
