Mecuris wins EIT Digital Challenge

The medical technology company Mecuris has won the EIT Digital Challenge 2019 in the "Digital Wellbeing" category, endowed with €100,000. The prize is awarded by the European innovation network of the same name.

The Munich-based medical technology startup Mecuris After winning the challenge, the company will receive €50,000 in cash and an additional €50,000 in growth support from the EIT Digital Accelerator for one year. The award recognizes the best deep technology startups in Europe. The Mecuris Managing Director Manuel Opitz says:

"We are very honored to have been selected among these strong startup ideas and, above all, to have the support of this large international fundraising community. This encourages us to continue driving digital transformation in the orthopedic and prosthetics industry."

Founded in 2016, the spin-off of the Ludwig Maximilian University Hospital offers a 'digital workshop', the so-called 'Mecuris Solution Platform'. This connects patients, orthopedic technicians, and 3D printing facilities. The goal of the collaborative work is to produce customized prostheses and orthoses from 3D printers. These are manufactured using additive manufacturing, meaning they are built up layer by layer from powdered plastic.

EIT Digital Challenge honors five winning startups

The EIT Digital Challenge took place for the sixth time this year. A total of 279 startups applied for the competition in the five categories "Digital Cities," "Digital Industry," "Digital Infrastructure," "Digital Wellbeing," and "Digital Finance." Each year, 25 applicants are invited to Brussels for the final round and compete against each other in their respective categories. Five winners and five runners-up are honored each year. The innovation network behind the award is part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, an EU institution.
