MSD Health Prize 2020 seeks digital health startups

With its Health Award, the pharmaceutical company MSD is seeking companies that make a lasting contribution to improving medical and economic patient care in Germany. Interested parties can apply until March 31.

Since 2012, the Haar-based company near Munich has been awarding pharmaceutical companies MSD Sharp & Dohme (MSD for short) is honored with the MSD Health Award. The goal of the competition is to promote collaboration in healthcare and strengthen care management. This year, the award focuses on specific indications, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and oncological diseases. Immunology (rheumatology, gastroenterology) and the prevention and treatment of infections are also in focus.

Apply for the MSD Health Award 2020 by March 31

Submitted projects must meet additional criteria, such as a sustainable improvement in medical and/or economic outcomes. External evaluation results must also be available. Furthermore, the approach must support patients and insured persons in identifying, understanding, and achieving specific health goals, as well as represent efficient care across multiple sectors.

7 jury prizes and an online voting

The award is presented in the categories "MSD Health Award" (places 1 to 3) as well as "Digitalization," "Community Medicine," "Patient Involvement," and "Lighthouse Projects." In addition, an audience award is presented via an online vote in which insured members and patients vote. Last year, 3,292 users participated.

In addition to prize money totaling over €115,000, MSD promises further benefits for participants. According to a case study commissioned by the company, 79 percent of the projects nominated for the health award received a boost for their further development through their participation. And 34 percent have transitioned into standard care.
