Repure brings Indian Ayurveda expertise to the smartphone

With its app of the same name, the Munich-based startup Repure aims to promote users' health with Ayurveda. The app offers practical application examples, exercises, and daily, type-specific tips. The articles and video content come from a renowned Indian Ayurveda expert.

Munich Startup: Who are you and what do you do? Please introduce yourselves briefly!

Repair: We are a diverse bunch, some of whom couldn't be more different: Karl Seidemann, 60, construction and real estate industry; Karin Kahofer, 52, cosmetics industry; Michael Frick, 40, design & brand development, communications; Toni Huber, 42, digital marketing & social media communications; and Sophie Kahofer, 26, project management.

A little over a year ago, the idea was born to help as many people as possible lead a happy and healthy life with the help of Ayurveda. The Ayurveda expert knowledge for this comes from our team member Vaidya Prathmesh Vyas. (The word 'Vaidya' refers to a person who practices Ayurveda and has completed several years of study in India or Sri Lanka.(Editor's note), one of the most internationally recognized Ayurveda scholars from India. Our shared goal is to make this knowledge accessible to everyone and transfer it to our Western lifestyle in an appealing way. For the initial phase of the app, we were able to recruit Leo Widrich, the founder of the app "Buffer," as our coach. With our diverse experiences, we are ideally positioned to develop and launch the app in a short time.

Repure creates more awareness of one’s own body

Munich Startup: What problem does your startup solve?

Repair: We live in a world where the majority of us place the responsibility for our own health in the hands of doctors or pharmacists. Very few listen to their bodies or have an understanding of the connections within the body. This is precisely where we want to Repair Raise awareness again. With our Daily Articles, we provide small daily tips and recommendations that anyone can easily incorporate into their daily routine and try out without much equipment. For specific problems, our Essential Articles offer type-specific, Ayurvedic recommendations.

The primary goal of Ayurveda, and thus also of the Repure app, is to lead a balanced life and thus take preventative measures to improve your health. We want to support and accompany our users on a daily basis.

Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!

Repair: Of course! We didn't reinvent Ayurveda. We're just reinterpreting it. It's as easy to understand as ever, with as few foreign words as possible, and above all: without pressure! We want to show people how simple Ayurveda can be and how easy and, above all, beautiful it can be to live a healthy life. Ayurveda isn't a dogmatic diet. Ayurveda feels good, and Ayurveda is as individual as each and every one of us. Through our dailies, we become a daily companion for our users, helping them lead a healthier and happier life.

Munich Startup: Has there ever been a point where you almost failed?

Repair: In fact, we once had to cancel the entire video shoot after our Vaidya, who lives in India, couldn't get a visa. After that, we completely questioned the videos internally, and some doubted whether we should even do them. Finally, four months later, we got the visa and the video shoot worked out, and we're more than happy with the result!

From the app to your own products

Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?

Repair: Our goal is for the app to be an enrichment for as many people as possible, and for as many people as possible to use the app regularly. Within a year at the latest, we will be able to offer our users the Android version and the English-language version of the app in addition to the existing iOS app, and we are committed to further personalizing the content.

Where do we see ourselves in 5 years? With our Ayurveda app, we continue to connect as many people as possible with the positive properties of Ayurveda, offering them the opportunity to learn as much as possible about themselves and their bodies. We are also planning an Ayurveda center and a range of proprietary Ayurveda products to complement our tips and daily routines. With one of the most comprehensive collections of knowledge in the field of Ayurveda, we aim to support people around the world every day and help them lead happier and healthier lives.

Targeted founding in Munich

Munich Startup: How do you rate Munich as a startup location?

Repair: Munich is one of the most beautiful cities in the world! We also feel that our app and our topics have found a receptive audience here. That was also the reason why we chose Munich as our "base." In true New Work style, our team members are not only located in Munich, but are also spread across Salzburg, Innsbruck, Passau, Vienna, and India. We all meet regularly in Munich and exchange ideas face-to-face on all topics related to Ayurveda and Repure.

Munich Startup: Get up early or stay up all night?

Repair: Both. Since we're all very different, we have early risers and night owls among us. Even though it's often not easy, perhaps that's one of our greatest strengths: the diversity we bring to the table as a team!
