Flying taxi startup Lilium secures $240 million

Mega-investment for Lilium: The Munich-based flying taxi startup secures nearly a quarter of a billion dollars in fresh capital. Tencent leads the financing round.

The Chinese internet group Tencent and the existing investors Atomico, Freigeist and LGT are injecting 240 million dollars of fresh money into the Munich-based startup LiliumThe company is developing all-electric, vertical takeoff and landing air taxi aircraft. The Munich-based company has raised a total of over $340 million in capital. The funds will be used for the further development of the Lilium Jet and for preparatory work for series production at Lilium's newly completed production facility.

In addition to developing electric aircraft, the company plans to operate a regional flight service in several regions of the world as early as 2025. The first phase of the Flight testing completed, in which the five-seat Lilium Jet was flown at speeds of over 100 km/h. Lilium's CFO Christopher Delbrück says:

"The additional financing underscores our investors' deep confidence in both our physical product and our business case. We are very grateful for the successful completion of our internal financing round with partners whose groundbreaking support we have benefited from over the past few years. The new funds will bring us a big step closer to our shared goal of launching a regional flight service by 2025."
