Five Munich-based companies among the 100 most innovative energy startups in the world

The SET100 list honors the most important energy startups of the year. 100 top startups were selected from 570 applications from 90 countries, including Keyou, Enmacc, Gridx, Twaice, and Munich-based Voltstorage.

For the fourth time, the Start Up Energy Transition (SET) initiative has selected the 100 top international startups working on solutions to climate change, the energy transition and the future of the Earth with its annual list.

Five Munich energy startups among the top 100 and one finalist

This year, 570 startups from 90 countries applied for the SET Award in five categories. The 100 most innovative energy startups made it onto the SET100 list, including the five Munich-based startups Keyou, Voltstorage, Enmacc, Gridx, and Twaice. Voltstorage also made it into the 15 finalists.

Voltstorage developed Power storage, which are based on so-called vanadium redox flow technology. The storage systems do not contain any rare materials or conflict minerals. They are fully recyclable, non-flammable, and can be charged and discharged as often as required without loss of capacity. In private households, the storage systems are intended to make solar power usable throughout the day.

Keyou is developing the classic combustion engine to use hydrogen as a sustainable fuel. The goal is emission-free and cost-efficient hydrogen propulsion for commercial vehicles. The founders Tom Korn, Alvaro Sousa and Ivo Pimentel, say:

"We are, of course, very pleased to be represented with Keyou on this year's SET100 list. On the one hand, because renowned organizations and experts are behind it, and on the other hand, because the competition spanned almost 90 countries worldwide."

Enmacc is an independent trading platform for the energy industry. Startup aims to increase liquidity in the energy markets and enable trading in new regions and with new products.

Gridx developed a platform, which serves as a technical enabler for digital business models along the energy value chain.

Twaice created with his software Digital twins of battery systems. This enables real-time analyses and predictions of the health of energy storage systems. Operators of electric vehicle fleets should be able to extend battery life by up to 25 percent.
