Flixbus resumes operation

The green buses of the Munich-based mobility company Flixbus have been idle since March 18. On Thursday, the company plans to restart operations on selected routes with a new hygiene concept.

After ten long weeks of downtime, Flixbus will be back in action on May 28. Long-distance bus platform offers trips to almost 50 destinations in Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, and the Czech Republic. Destinations in Germany include the major cities of Munich, Berlin, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Hamburg, and Frankfurt am Main. Connections to rural areas and smaller towns such as Bayreuth, Weimar, and Wolpertshausen are also offered.

“After two months of standstill, we are delighted to finally be able to return to the streets and give many people the opportunity to travel again and visit family and friends,”

says André Schwämmlein, co-founder and managing director of Flixbus's parent company Flixmobility.

“Our team has used the past few weeks to develop a hygiene concept that will enable travelers to travel safely by long-distance bus, even in the current situation.”

Flixbus-Passengers with symptoms should stay at home

With the restart, Flixbus is introducing a whole series of hygiene measures. According to the company, the buses will be thoroughly disinfected after each trip. Boarding and disembarking will be done exclusively through the rear bus door. A minimum distance of 1.5 meters between passengers will be maintained both while waiting and while boarding and disembarking. Masks are required throughout the entire journey. Schwämmlein says:

"We appeal to our passengers to only begin their journey if they are symptom-free. Our cancellation policy offers maximum flexibility."

Before the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis, Flixbus offered connections to more than 2,500 destinations in 32 countries. The establishment of a national network in Great Britain and Portugal, as well as expansion into the Baltic states, was planned for this year. The Munich-based airline also planned to venture into Africa with initial destinations in Morocco.
